About Lymphoedema Physiotherapy
Lymphoedema is a chronic condition characterised by swelling often caused by the accumulation of lymphatic fluid. Our comprehensive care aims to reduce discomfort, improve mobility, and enhance your quality of life.
Area's of lymphedema treatment include:
-
Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD)
This hands-on technique is designed to stimulate the lymphatic system and encourage drainage of lymph fluid. MLD reduces swelling, alleviates discomfort, and promotes tissue healing. -
Compression Therapy and Garment Fitting
Compression garments play a crucial role in managing lymphoedema. Amy and Mikayla will ensure you are fitted with the appropriate compression solutions, including bandages, sleeves, or custom-made garments, to optimize fluid control and maintain results. -
Exercise Programs
Targeted exercises can enhance lymphatic circulation, reduce swelling, and restore functional strength. Your physiotherapist will design a personalized exercise plan to support long-term management. -
Education and Self-Management Strategies
Empowering you with knowledge is a key part of our care. We provide practical guidance on skincare, infection prevention, and daily routines to help you manage lymphoedema independently and effectively.
What to Expect at an Initial Consult
At your initial Lymphodema appointment, we will do a thorough assessment to evaluate the severity of your condition, identify underlying causes, and develop a tailored treatment plan. We use advanced tools and techniques to monitor progress and adapt treatment as needed.

Here are a few ways to prepare for your initial Lymphoedema consult:
-
Please wear comfortable, loose clothing that allows us to view the affected area. This could be shorts/short sleeves or something that can be rolled up
-
Bring any previous compression garments and/or compression garment aids you have had in the past
-
Bring any previous testing of your lymphatic system -> lymphoscintigraphy, indocyanine green tests, doppler studies or SOZO results
-
Have a chat with your doctor about concerns they have about your circulatory or lymphatic system in regards to compression (we require medical clearance to commence treatment in some cases)
Our Team.
Amy is a dedicated physiotherapist with a special interest in cancer rehabilitation and lymphoedema management. In 2021, she completed the ALERT program at Macquarie University, gaining expertise in evidence-based assessment and treatment of lymphoedema to enhance her patients' function and quality of life.
Through her experience, Amy identified a gap in physiotherapy support for breast cancer recovery. With over 20,000 Australian women diagnosed each year facing issues like pain and lymphoedema, she sought further training. In 2024, she completed the PINC & STEEL Breast Cancer Physiotherapy course.
This advanced program equipped her to assist with post-operative recovery and facilitate a safe return to exercise and work. Amy developed skills in scar management and gained insights into breathing biomechanics, which play a crucial role in rehabilitation and pain management. With this knowledge, she is now better positioned to provide comprehensive care throughout her patients' recovery journeys.

Mikayla is an ALA Accredited Lymphoedema Therapist and trained through the Australian Lymphoedema Association.
She enjoys treating lymphoedema and lipoedema patients from all backgrounds, particularly those who have experienced or are currently undergoing breast cancer treatment or experiencing venous insufficiency-type issues. She offers manual lymphatic drainage, bandaging and garment prescription and ensures patients are well educated on their condition from diagnosis through to self-management.
